From #Nicaragua To #Syria: Journalism Is Dead Long Live Psy Warfare.

NATO country information media are vital component of NATO war planning and practice

NATO country information media are vital component of NATO war planning and practice

Journalism has been rendered obsolete by the reporting practice of media in NATO countries and their allies.  Recent wars from the Ivory Coast to Libya  and now Syria only confirm what was already clear after the chain of wars in the 1990s, in former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Somalia, Rwanda, the Congo and many other places. NATO country information media across the political spectrum are, one way or another, a vital component of NATO war planning and practice in terms of psy-warfare. The same is also true of the aid, development and human rights non-governmental sector of those NATO countries.

The conflicts in Libya and Syria demonstrated that most progressive and radical currents of political opinion will readily collaborate with NATO psy-warfare campaigns against target countries. In general almost all progressive opinion is intimidated by the completely bogus rhetoric of human rights and democracy deployed by the NATO country psy-warfare machinery. The most common expression of this is for the representatives of progressive opinion to try and seek a neutral position that in practice facilitates NATO aggression against its target countries.

Latin America

This in turn means that even political systems and movements enjoying mass support can be readily demonized as has happened in the cases of the Libyan Jamahiriya or of the Syrian Ba'ath party. Similar tactics are being used today against all countries in Latin America that do not conform to NATO’s desires, as well as against the solidarity between those countries and towards them. Always focusing on a different nation depending on the specific conjuncture.

Apart from the constant campaign against Venezuela, one can think of the so-called Cuban “Black Spring” in 2003, the weeks and months prior to the failed coup against Correa in Ecuador in 2010, or today’s protests against Evo Morales in Bolivia or those against Cristina Fernandez in Argentina and now the coup attempt in Paraguay against Fernando Lugo.

These demonization campaigns always imply some element of differentiation among the Latin American rebels. Whereas sometimes the CNN and other imperial outlets focus on Lula’s “realism” vis-á-vis Chávez’ “unpredictability”, other times they may choose to underline Correa’s willingness to talk with, say, Hilary Clinton against Daniel Ortega’s “shrewdness” and so on. The roles of angels and foes can change overnight and has, off course, nothing to do with reality but with the needs and logic of information psy-warfare....read more

#Syria:#Lavrov - #Russia ready to share info on downed Turkish plane

Source RT

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is prepared to share any observation data it recorded of the flight of the Turkish reconnaissance plane that was hit by Syria. Speaking at an international conference on Syria in Geneva, Lavrov said that it was crucial not to assign blame for the incident. A Turkish Phantom plane was shot after violating Syria’s airspace on June 22.

Syria: Russia Bows To The West - Opposition Terrorists Who Are They ? They Will Be Puppets Chosen By The West. The Zionists Have Won.

The Syrian crisis is to be resolved by a transition government consisting of the current authorities and opposition leaders. The proposal was announced by UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan after talks in Geneva.

The unity government should be formed on the basis of mutual consent, said Annan. The Syrian-led transition should take place within a fixed period of time.

Annan, announcing the official communiqué of the international meeting in Geneva, called on the Syrian regime and opposition groups to recommit to ceasefire and start implementing his six-point peace plan immediately, without waiting for the other side.

The envoy stressed several times that it is up to Syrians to determine their political future.
Prior to the conference, Annan had proposed a plan for a unity government in Syria excluding political figures that compromise the country’s stability, effectively calling for the removal of President Assad. But Russia refused to back such a provision.

Annan said some common ground is yet to be found. Foreign ministers, who took part in the conference in Geneva, will make up a regular working group on the Syrian crisis. A new round of Syria talks may take place in Moscow, suggest diplomatic sources.

During the meeting, British Foreign Secretary William Hague called for the UN Security Council to draft a resolution imposing sanctions against the Arab country. He also maintained that President al-Assad and his close associates could not lead a transition, reports Reuters.
Without [a UNSC resolution] and the prospect of penalties for non-compliance, there can be little credible pressure on the Syrian regime and other parties to change course," said Hague.

The US would call a UNSC session over the Syrian crisis, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in the press conference that followed. Sanctions based on UN Charter VII should be used against Syria, if Annan’s new plan is not implemented, she added.

If there is no resolution to the Syrian crisis, UN observers will have to withdraw from the Arab country, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon warned the conference on Saturday. At the moment, the observers are expected to resume their work in the Arab country as soon as conditions allow. The mission was suspended on June 20 over the escalated violence.

The violent uprisings that started over 16 months ago in Syria have become increasingly more militarized over the last few months. Both the Syrian President and UN envoy Annan have classified the conflict as an all-out war.

The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon said that the death toll has reached over 10,000, while opposition groups say that the figure is a lot higher.

Syria: U.S. Breathtaking Arrogance On Iran - Time For U.S. Regime Change!

By Rodney Shakespeare
June 29, 2012 "
Information Clearing House" -- With breath-taking arrogance, the USA is opposing the presence of Iran at the discussions about Syria in Geneva.
Turkey - now openly playing the sectarian card and deliberately causing a Phantom jet to fly in fast and low in order to provoke a reaction and so involve NATO - can be present. The USA - supplying arms to al-Qaeda; organizing Salafists, Wahhabists and death squads; broadcasting lying propaganda - can be present. Russia and China can be present. But not Iran.

Yet Iran has political, religious and cultural links with the Alawite (Shia sect) government of Syria. Iran is the one country - not the USA, not Russia, not China, not Turkey, Saudi Arabia or Qatar - which can have frank talks with Syria. Iran is the one country which Syria can trust as understanding its situation. And Iran is the only country which can give hope of avoiding a civil war bloodbath, at the very least, or a probable decade-long regional war.

But Iran is not to be at Geneva because the USA, riddled with bigotry and an example of Ancient Greek hubris if there ever was one, hates any country which wants to be independent. It particularly hates Iran. Indeed, so extreme is the hatred that anything (including war) can be done to achieve regime change in Tehran. It is therefore no surprise that, at all times, the USA quickly side-lines democracy and justice if there is any likelihood that Iran might be involved in the solution. And just to spell out the point, in Syria, the USA is co-operating with Saudi Arabia - a vicious, totalitarian tyranny supplying guns and money - and with Qatar - an anti-democratic country, supplying guns and money.

Furthermore, bent on regime change in Syria, the USA is comprehensively ignoring the Kofi Annan Peace Plan just as the referendum and election held by Syria are also being ignored. When the USA wants regime change, anything goes - particularly the torturing and slaughter of Shia women and children which, by twisting the facts to their opposite, are blamed on the government when they were really the work of the American-backed Wahhabi and NATO death squads who, when not killing, like to ransack Christian churches. ....read more

#Syria:#CIA #MI6 Assassination Plot - Macmillan Backed Syria Assassination Plot (2003)

Documents show White House and No 10 conspired over oil-fuelled invasion plan
  • The Guardian,
Nearly 50 years before the war in Iraq, Britain and America sought a secretive "regime change" in another Arab country they accused of spreading terror and threatening the west's oil supplies, by planning the invasion of Syria and the assassination of leading figures.
Newly discovered documents show how in 1957 Harold Macmillan and President Dwight Eisenhower approved a CIA-MI6 plan to stage fake border incidents as an excuse for an invasion by Syria's pro-western neighbours, and then to "eliminate" the most influential triumvirate in Damascus.

The plans, frighteningly frank in their discussion, were discovered in the private papers of Duncan Sandys, Mr Macmillan's defence secretary, by Matthew Jones, a reader in international history at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Although historians know that intelligence services had sought to topple the Syrian regime in the autumn of 1957, this is the first time any document has been found showing that the assassination of three leading figures was at the heart of the scheme.

In the document drawn up by a top secret and high-level working group that met in Washington in September 1957, Mr Macmillan and President Eisenhower were left in no doubt about the need to assassinate the top men in Damascus.

Part of the "preferred plan" reads: "In order to facilitate the action of liberative forces, reduce the capabilities of the Syrian regime to organise and direct its military actions, to hold losses and destruction to a minimum, and to bring about desired results in the shortest possible time, a special effort should be made to eliminate certain key individuals.

Their removal should be accomplished early in the course of the uprising and intervention and in the light of circumstances existing at the time."

The document, approved by London and Washington, named three men: Abd al-Hamid Sarraj, head of Syrian military intelligence; Afif al-Bizri, chief of the Syrian general staff; and Khalid Bakdash, leader of the Syrian Communist party.

For a prime minister who had largely come to power on the back of Anthony Eden's disastrous antics in Suez just a year before, Mr Macmillan was remarkably bellicose. He described it in his diary as "a most formidable report". Secrecy was so great, Mr Macmillan ordered the plan withheld even from British chiefs of staff, because of their tendency "to chatter".

Concern about the increasingly anti-western and pro-Soviet sympathies of Syria had been growing in Downing Street and the White House since the overthrow of the conservative military regime of Colonel Adib Shishakli by an alliance of Ba'ath party and Communist party politicians and their allies in the Syrian army, in 1954.

Driving the call for action was the CIA's Middle East chief Kermit Roosevelt, grandson of former president Theodore Roosevelt.

He identified Colonel Sarraj, General al-Bizri and Mr Bakdash as the real power behind a figurehead president. The triumvirate had moved even closer to Nikita Khrushchev's orbit after the previous year's disastrous attempt by Britain and France, in collusion with Israel, to reverse the nationalisation of the Suez canal.

By 1957, despite America's opposition to the Suez move, President Eisenhower felt he could no longer ignore the danger of Syria becoming a centre for Moscow to spread communism throughout the Middle East.

He and Mr Macmillan feared Syria would destabilise pro-western neighbours by exporting terrorism and encouraging internal dissent. More importantly, Syria also had control of one of the main oil arteries of the Middle East, the pipeline which connected pro-western Iraq's oilfields to Turkey.

The "preferred plan"adds: "Once a political decision is reached to proceed with internal disturbances in Syria, CIA is prepared, and SIS [MI6] will attempt, to mount minor sabotage and coup de main incidents within Syria, working through contacts with individuals.

"The two services should consult, as appropriate, to avoid any overlapping or interference with each other's activities... Incidents should not be concentrated in Damascus; the operation should not be overdone; and to the extent possible care should be taken to avoid causing key leaders of the Syrian regime to take additional personal protection measures."

Sabotage

The report said that once the necessary degree of fear had been created, frontier incidents and border clashes would be staged to provide a pretext for Iraqi and Jordanian military intervention.

Syria had to be "made to appear as the sponsor of plots, sabotage and violence directed against neighbouring governments," the report says. "CIA and SIS should use their capabilities in both the psychological and action fields to augment tension."

That meant operations in Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon, taking the form of "sabotage, national conspiracies and various strong-arm activities" to be blamed on Damascus.

The plan called for funding of a "Free Syria Committee", and the arming of "political factions with paramilitary or other actionist capabilities" within Syria.

The CIA and MI6 would instigate internal uprisings, for instance by the Druze in the south, help to free political prisoners held in the Mezze prison, and stir up the Muslim Brotherhood in Damascus.

The planners envisaged replacing the Ba'ath/Communist regime with one that was firmly anti-Soviet, but they conceded that this would not be popular and "would probably need to rely first upon repressive measures and arbitrary exercise of power".

The plan was never used, chiefly because Syria's Arab neighbours could not be persuaded to take action and an attack from Turkey alone was thought to be unacceptable.

The following year, the Ba'athists moved against their Communist former allies and took Syria into a federation with Gen Nasser's Egypt, which lasted until 1963.

Syria:Turkey Urged NOT To Cooperate With The West.

Turkish intellectual Ali Bulac
Turkish intellectual Ali Bulac
A prominent Turkish intellectual has called on the Ankara government to avoid cooperating with the West against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

In an interview with the Turkish newspaper Dogru Haber, Ali Bulac also criticized the policies of the government of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the Middle East region, in particular the ongoing unrest in Syria.
He said that Syria’s crisis should be resolved according to the national interests of the Muslim nation.

Bulac said that his country should revise its foreign policy and keep away from the West in a bid to help resolve the Syrian crisis in a peaceful way.

The US is trying to push the armies of the two Muslim countries into a war by luring the Turkish government.

On Tuesday, Turkey deployed a large number of tanks and other armored vehicles to the Syrian border amid rising tensions with Damascus over the downing of a Turkish jet fighter by the Syrian army.

The move comes after Turkish Prime Minster Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to retaliate against Damascus over the downing of its jet.

Syria on Friday said that a Turkish F-4 Phantom fighter plane, was downed in the Syrian territorial waters west of the village of Om al-Tuyour in Lattakia Province, 10 kilometers from the beach.

The Syrian military stressed that it had engaged the jet in the Syrian airspace “according to the laws that govern such situations.”

Turkey, however, claims that its fighter jet was shot down in "international airspace."

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, Damascus blames ''outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups'' for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.

#Syria: #Obama MUST Go - Time For Regime Change In The U.S. Not Syria.

Editor’s Note:

It is certainly time for regime change in the USA but the author errs when he states that the US were taken by surprise by the “Arab Spring when in fact they orchestrated the violent destabilizations to topple long-time opponents to imperialism (read the Brookings plan for Syria and the Brookings plan for the destruction of Iran), escalate “the clash of civilizations” and push the Greater Middle East Initiative forward, confiscating valuable resources and territory in the process.

Neither would “regime change” be sufficient. It is time for an end to global imperialism and it’s perpetual wars manufactured and fought through the North Atlantic Terrorist Organization (NATO).

#Syria :#Israel #UN Priorities - 90 minutes for today’s victims in Syria, entire day for old accusations against Israel !

As part of its agenda item on all country situations, the June meeting of the U.N.’s 47-nation Human Rights Council will devote 90 minutes tomorrow to address the ongoing massacres in Syria, which have already claimed an estimated 14,000 deaths.

On Monday, however, the council will devote an entire day to alleged abuses by Israel, under its only agenda item dedicated to a single country. (“Item 7: Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.”) See the latest U.N. schedule here; “OPT” = “Occupied Palestinian Territories.”)

It’s under that special agenda item that Richard Falk, the pro-Hamas 9/11 conspiracist who is the council’s Special Rapporteur on Palestine, will present his report.
In addition:
  • High Commissioner Navi Pillay will present yet another follow-up report on the 2010 flotilla incident;
  • There will be yet another follow-up report on the 2009 Goldstone Report;
  • And a report on the implementation of resolution 19/17 of March 2012, which called for an inquiry on Israeli settlements. The commission members are expected to be named soon, sources told UN Watch.

Syria: Annan Will Brief Iran After the Geneva Meeting.

Quote

The United States and European nations opposed the presence of Iran, a long time ally of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad. Diplomats said Russia opposed Saudi Arabia because of its support for the Syrian opposition.

UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan and UN leader Ban Ki-moon had wanted Iran at the ministerial meeting and the UN has said Annan will brief Iranian authorities after the encounter.
"That shows how powerful and influential and helpful Iranians can be on the Syrian issue," said the Iranian ambassador.

Speaking of the Western powers who blocked his country, Khazaee added: "That is their problem, losing a good way to solve the problem."

Khazaee said Iran had been "trying to find a solution" in Syria by "helping to end violence, criticizing the foreign powers who, militarily and financially, assist and help opposition groups and some terrorist groups."

He added that Tehran had made "strong recommendations" to the Syrian government to carry out reforms.

Washington and Moscow have a good chance of progressing on Syria in Geneva on Saturday, said Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov as he emerged from three hours of tense talks with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“Syria dominated the international affairs section. I felt Hillary Clinton’s position has changed,” Lavrov said after the meeting. She said she understands our position.

We have agreed with Hillary Clinton to look for agreements on Syria which would bring us closer together,” he added.

The two powers discussed Kofi Annan’s unity government plan ahead of a crucial meeting on Syria in Geneva on Saturday, which will bring together UN Security Council members, European and some Middle East countries.

Annan’s plan does not call for Assad’s ouster, but pushes for the creation of a transitional government that would exclude figures that jeopardize stability.

There was no word this plan is not feasible,” remarked Lavrov on Friday.

#Syria: #Journalist TV Massacre By Western Backed Terrorists.

Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi put the responsibility for killing of seven TV staffers on the EU, Arab and International organizations. He called it “the worst massacre against journalism and the freedom of media.”

Seven journalists and workers in the Syrian al-Ikhbaryia Satellite Channel were killed on Wednesday morning in an attack by an armed group targeting the headquarters of al-Ikhbaryia. The assault occurred some 20 kilometres south of the capital Damascus.

They planted explosive devices at the headquarters of al-Ikhbaryia following their ransacking, and destroying the Satellite Channel studios, including the newsroom.

An employee at the station told Associated Press that several people were wounded in the attack and guards were kidnapped. He did not give his name for fear of repercussions, but said the gunmen drove him about 200 meters away, and then he heard the explosion of the station being destroyed.

A few hours after the attack, the station was still able to broadcast.

"This massacre won't go unpunished and the broadcast of the Syrian al-Ikhbaryia Satellite will not stop and we hold the EU and Arab and International organizations responsible for this massacre," Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quotes Information Minister al-Zoubi as saying.“Those who committed this crime had carried out the decision of the Arab League Council to silence the voice of Syria."

Father of the missing pilot from the Turkish fighter jet that was shot down by the Syrian military says it would not be right for his country to go to war over his son.

Captian Gokhan Ertan’s father, Ali Erton said that Turkey is not a country that would go to war because another country killed one of their pilots.

“It is not appropriate for a country to go to war over a pilot, an airplane or 50 airplanes,” Erton said in an interview on Monday.

“What matters is that my son serves his country,” he added.

Syria on Friday said that a Turkish fighter jet, a F-4 Phantom, was downed in Syrian territorial waters west of the village of Om al-Tuyour in Lattakia Province, 10 kilometers from the beach.

Syrian military stressed that it had engaged the jet in the Syrian airspace “according to the laws that govern such situations.”

Ankara had earlier said that its military lost radar and radio contact with the jet over the Mediterranean after it took off from Erhac Airport in the eastern Turkish province of Malatya.

The Turkish military provided no details about the mission of the jet.

Meanwhile, Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that his government would retaliate against Damascus and he has changed the rules of engagement with Syria, and branding its former ally as "a clear and imminent threat".

Syria:Turkey has deployed a convoy of about 30 military vehicles, including trucks loaded with missile to the Syrian border.

Ankara has deployed a convoy of about 30 military vehicles, including trucks loaded with missile batteries, to the Syrian border, Turkish state media say.

According to reports by Turkish state media on Thursday, the convoy left the town of Iskenderun in the southern province of Hatay, heading for the Syrian border.

Several military vehicles have also been deployed separately to a military garrison in the border town of Reyhanli in Hatay.

The reports also stated that Ankara was transporting armored vehicles to military installations in the city of Sanliurfa, the capital of the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, close to the Syrian border.

The development comes two days after the Turkish Hurriyet Daily reported on June 26 that Ankara had deployed a “large number of military vehicles to the Syrian border,” including “15 armored tanks, in addition to long-distance guns and other military vehicles.”

On June 22, Syria said its air defense forces shot down a Turkish F-4 Phantom in the Syrian airspace “according to the laws that govern such situations.” The aircraft crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told TRT television on June 24, “According to our conclusions, our plane was shot down in international airspace, 13 nautical miles from Syria.”

However, Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi said in a press conference in Damascus a day later that the Turkish warplane “violated Syrian airspace, and in turn Syrian air defenses fired back and the plane crashed inside Syrian territorial waters.”

On June 26, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara would retaliate “with determination” and take the “necessary steps by determining the time, place and method by itself.”

Erdogan made the remarks on the same day when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a meeting of the new government that the country was in a “real situation of war.”

“When one is in a state of war, all our policies and capabilities must be used to secure victory,” Assad stated.

In light of the recently published reports of the desecration of Christian holy places by various armed gangs, this is currently very topical on the one hand; on the other hand, it is also quite surprisingly neutral, peaceful and conciliatory in content.

This is a clear indication that the religious or sectarian component that some want to teach in some media in addition to the riots in Syria (Alawites and Shiites vs. Sunnis, and so on…), is an influence from the outside and it is also a game with baser instincts.

Syria: Russia And China Vow To Protect Syria From Becoming Another Libya.

By Farooq Yousaf

It is now widely known that the Obama administration, with the help of its allies, is planning to launch an offensive against the Assad regime in Syria. The attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, with the help Israel, also seems to be on the cards. In such a situation, where Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have proven to be clear fiascos, the dwindling world economic scene can least afford another major conflict.
Such interventions would not only induce wide scale human loss but would also bring with them adverse economic effects for the world states.  And with the recent announcement of joint war games, and one of the biggest, among China, Russia, Iran and Syria, the signal is going strong for forces that wish to intervene in either Syria or Iran.

Iran's Fars news agency reported that more than 90,000 soldiers from the aforementioned 4 countries would take part in the military exercises, making it the largest in regional history. Theses war games will include air defense and missile units as well as ground, air and naval forces and are scheduled for early July.....read more

Syria: Russia Back Annan's idea.

Warning : Reuters have fabricated evidence against Syria to help the Zionist movement. Therefore any 'sauce' they claim to have should be taken with a large grain of salt.

UN envoy Kofi Annan says a national unity cabinet with government and opposition members could be the solution for the Syrian crisis. Moscow and other permanent members of the UN Security Council reportedly “signaled” their support of the idea.

That is according to diplomatic sources that spoke to Reuters on Wednesday on condition of anonymity. Annan's proposal for a political transition in Syria is one of the main topics that Russia and other key players in the Middle East will discuss at the Geneva meeting on Saturday.

Summarizing the proposal, diplomats explained the conflict could only end when all sides see a common way to a shared future. Annan stressed it was “vital that [any] settlement [be] irreversible, [with] clear transition steps in a fixed timeline.”

“These include establishing a transitional national unity government to create a neutral backdrop for transition,” the diplomat said. “It could comprise of present government members, opposition and others, but would need to exclude those whose continued participation or presence would jeopardize the transition's credibility, or harm prospects for reconciliation and stability.”

Although Annan's plan does not specify who exactly would be excluded from the prospective government, the diplomat added that this idea was clearly referring to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Reuters’ source also states that the Russians “signaled to Annan that they accept his transition plan,” while several Western diplomats confirmed these remarks. Moreover, all five veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council have reportedly backed the proposal.
Kofi Annan has made the acceptance of his proposal a condition for organizing the Saturday meeting. The United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar will attend the conference.

Syria: Assad- ' We Are Now In A State Of War' - U.N. - Mission Impossible.

Syrian President says his country in a state of war. The UN peacekeeping chief says the UN observer mission in the country will not resume, as it is too dangerous for the monitors to restart their operations at this point.

More clashes broke out in Syria on Wednesday.

The state media reported gunmen raided the headquarters of a pro-government Syrian TV station early in the day, demolishing the building and killing three employees. Officials denounced what they called a rebel "massacre against the freedom of the press."

More violence was reported on the outskirts of Damascus Tuesday morning, between Syria’s elite Republican Guard forces – a 10,000-man bodyguard unit of the Syrian Army – and rebels. At least six people are reported killed.

Syria’s President Bashar Assad himself acknowledged that his country is now in a state of war. He was speaking on Tuesday at the first cabinet meeting of the newly sworn-in government. President Assad ordered the cabinet to direct all their efforts to beating the armed opposition.

"We live in a real state of war from all angles," he said. "When we are in a war, all policies and all sides and all sectors need to be directed at winning this war."

UN forces in Syria repeatedly came under fire before the organization suspended its 300-member mission on June 16. Back then, the mission's head, Major-General Robert Mood, told the UN Security Council that the observers had suffered direct fire at least 10 times and had been in several indirect fire incidents. Also, nine UN vehicles had been damaged or had come under fire, AP reports.

Nevertheless, the mission could yet potentially resume its activity. A diplomat, who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity, said that Herve Ladsous, the UN peacekeeping chief, had told a closed council meeting that the mission could restart at some point, but that for the time being it is too dangerous.....read more

Syria: Turkey Wants NATO To Attack Syria For Zionist U.S.

Published on 26 Jun 2012 by
NATO has held an emergency closed door meeting at Turkey's request, after one its fighter jets was shot down by Syria. The alliance has condemned Damascus' actions... but fell short of calling it an attack on the whole bloc. RT's Tesa Arcilla reports.
Turkey claims its downed jet was unarmed, and was on a training flight, testing the country's radars. But the head of an independent Syrian media outlet, says Ankara could have been spying on Damascus

Syrian government forces and the armed opposition are fighting in two Damascus suburbs, while there were also reports of overnight shelling in the capital.

The clashes have been happening in the suburbs of Qudsaya and Hammah, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports.

AP also says that fighting raged near the housing compounds and bases of the Republican Guard.

"Artillery fire can be heard regularly in the capital, but it's the first time that there’s been the sound of such heavy shelling. There was no sound of aircraft however," says RT’s Maria Finoshina, who is currently in Damascus.

She added that the shelling also appears to be coming from one of the presidential compounds of Bashar al-Assad, and that many ambulances have been rushing injured people to hospital.

The intensified clashes may indicate that a coordinated offensive may be taking place in Syria, reports Israel's Debkafile website. The attacks are apparently targeting the presidential palace and the compound of the presidential guard, the site reports....read more

Syria: Russian Syrian Base Will Stay.

Russia is not planning to abandon its Mediterranean naval base in the Syrian port of Tartus, the commander in chief of the Russian Navy has announced.

“We need this base, it is functioning and it will keep on functioning further,” the RIA Novosti news agency quoted Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov as saying. The admiral added that Russia needed the base to supply its navy ships on combat duty in the Mediterranean Sea, the Bay of Aden and in the Indian Ocean.

Russia has had the supply base in the Syrian port of Tartus since Soviet times. It is not a full-fledged military base, but there are about 50 servicemen permanently stationed at the port and a special vessel for ship repairs.

Earlier this month Russian news agencies were posting conflicting reports on the developments around the Tartus base. Some said that two amphibious ships and a tugboat were headed towards Syria, while others quoted navy officials denying that those events had transpired....read more

Syria: Clinton Lets ALL Know That The Russians Are Guilty. Cuban Cigars Are Now Explained !

The toxic “drone”, Hillary Clinton, boosts the atmosphere against Syria and Russia continuously further. With her usual arrogance, Hillary Clinton is currently playing the boss (queen it) against Syria and wants to call Syria to account.

What a sickening arrogance, as the world leading aggressor- and torture-state, to want to call someone to account, when this country has made an attacker harmless on its own territory.
Hillary Clinton is herself not too bad for any sleight of hand. First she has converted Russian type helicopters into attack helicopters which will allegedly be used against civilians and has boosted this false story; and now, the Turkish perpetrator is in the eyes of Hillary Clinton just the poor victim.

Munchausen blames the Russians

Following the same pattern, the allies of the United States spread the story about the “information” concerning the Syrian unit that has downed the Turkish Phantom F-4 fighter jet today (or was it a QF-4 Phantom – a US Drone model variant without pilots?).
Again, the Russians are the bad guy. And NATO, which is meeting tomorrow, gets a reason to rant against the Syrian Air defense, which has damaged its Goring plan of attack” (German: göringschen Angriffsplan).

According to DEBKAfile, the Turkish F-4 Phantom jet fighter was not downed by flak, but was shot down with “newly delivered” Russian Pantzir-1 anti-aircraft missiles. But Jihad Makdisi, spokesman of the Syrian Foreign Ministry, said something else already in a recent press event. The video of the press event with the spokesperson of the Syrian Foreign Ministry, Jihad Makdisi, is included below.
The Russian Pantsir-S1 (Russian: Панцирь-С1, NATO reporting name SA-22 Greyhound) anti-aircraft missiles are medium range missiles against flying targets, that can be used up to 12 km altitude and they can also be used against cruise missiles.

The responsible Syrian unit for the downing of the old Turkish Phantom F-4 fighter jet was the 73rd Brigade of the 26th Syrian Air defense division.....read more

Syria: Terrorists Blow Up Oil Pipeline In Eastern Syria.

Armed groups in Syria have blown up a section of an oil pipeline in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour.
The pipeline, which is located near the provincial capital city of Deir al-Zour, was targeted on Sunday. No casualties were reported.

Over the past few months, armed gangs have several times targeted pipelines in Syria. Similar attacks were also carried out in Deir al-Zour in May and March. A section of a gas pipeline in the central province of Homs near the Lebanese border was also targeted in January.
The attack was carried out two days after the UK newspaper Guardian said in a June 22 report that the Saudi regime will pay the armed rebels inside Syria to encourage “mass defections from the military and… pressure” the Damascus government.

On June 3, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the country is “facing a war from abroad,” and that attempts are being made to “weaken Syria, [and] breach its sovereignty.”

Military intervention in Syria moved a step nearer after Nato announced it would meet to discuss the shooting down of a Turkish warplane.

Amid a tense stand-off, Ankara invoked Article 4 of the defence alliance which allows a member state to consult allies if its security is threatened.

Two Turkish airmen were still missing last night after their unarmed F-4 Phantom jet was shot down by Syrian forces.

Turkey’s foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the jet ‘momentarily’ strayed into Syrian airspace during Friday’s training flight but was shot down after returning to international airspace.

Damascus insisted the ‘unidentified’ aircraft was engaged while over Syrian territorial waters, which extend 12 nautical miles from the coastline.

Foreign Secretary William Hague said the ‘deplorable’ incident underlined the need for Syrian president Bashar Assad’s brutal regime to go.

He said: ‘This outrageous act underlines how far beyond accepted behaviour the Syrian regime has put itself and I condemn it wholeheartedly.

‘The Assad regime should not make the mistake of believing it can act with impunity. It will be held to account for its behaviour.’

Whitehall sources said Ankara’s decision to call the Nato meeting in Brussels tomorrow meant the prospect of military intervention would be discussed.

Earlier this month Mr Hague suggested the UK may send troops to Syria if the country spiralled into a Bosnian-style civil war.

More than 14,000, mostly civilians, have been killed in the past 15 months since Assad ordered his soldiers to crush an uprising.
